Born during the late 1950's, Goff received many of his embryonic musical influences via the mass media, through radio, television, and vinyl records. The Beatles were the undisputed center of popular music's foci during the 1960's, as Goff aged toward his teen years. The group's effect on Goff's developing sense of creativity has lasted throughout his entire life, resulting in several efforts to capture Beatles magic through interpretive recording productions. The pieces offered here showcase nearly 50 years worth of those efforts.
This collection is purely a not-for-profit exhibition, intended only to show appreciation of and admiration for the efforts of George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr. No claims are made to the copyrights of any materials presented here.
Some Notes:
"When I'm Sixty-Four" was one of Goff's first experiments with "multi-track" recording, incorporating open air microphones plugged into a portable reel-to-reel tape recorder and a "shoebox" cassette recorder.
Tracks 2-7 were all produced with a Tascam Porta-05, 4-track cassette recorder.
Tracks 8-15 were produced using various digital recording computer softwares. Often more than one type of software was used to achieve unique results.
"Good Morning" features background vocals sung by Karen Butler (aka Karen Goff) and by several residents of the Kansas City Zoo.
The "Fixing A Hole" recording provided in this collection was directly copied from the original 4-track production. This is the first time that this version of the song has been offered to the public via the internet. A remastered version appears on the internet archive page for Goff's "Awe" album, originally posted in 2009.
"Queen Beatle" is a surreal/dada exercise in producing a piece of music that incorporates carefully selected lyrical phrases from various Beatles songs into a severely modified interpretation of Freddie Mercury's "Killer Queen."
"Content" incorporates various bits of John Lennon's verbalized wisdom into an original Goff sonic sculpture.
"Make Up Shake Up" is a collage of bits from various unofficial Beatles recordings. Goff created this mix on July 28, 2005, as one of his contributions to Jasun Martz and Gregg Hill's "The 31 Days In July" project.
The recording of "And Your Bird Can Sing" presented in this collection was created as Goff's offering to a collaborative effort featuring Turkey Makes Me Sleepy members: Michael Adams and Eric Matchett. Adams and Matchett's subsequent modifications turned this offering into an extremely experimental bit of sonic madness for TMMSleepy's "The Van Winkle Effect" album. Goff's unaltered contribution, presented here, has never previously been offered to the public.
The Track 12 interpretation of "And I Love Her" was performed live in the Taped Rugs Studio, Kansas City, Kansas, on July 15, 2013.
"If I Deal" incorporates Goff's original lyrics (about a leader who offers political appointments to people who unquestionably support any and all of his less than ethical behaviors and unsubstantiated public claims) into the music of "If I Fell."
"Helter, Chuck, And Dave" blends musical elements from "Helter Skelter" with lyrics from "When I'm Sixty-Four." This recording first appeared on Goff's "The Lore Of The Rugs" album, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Taped Rugs Productions. The ending includes a short interpretation of the Genesis song: "The Carpet Crawlers" to tie-in a reference to rugs.
